***IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING HIRING LAKE NORMAN GLASS FOR ANY JOB, PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW BEFORE DOING SO***

Bottom line: these guys do shoddy work that is bound to fail (see Michael Kulikowski’s review below) after 15 months, then hide behind their “one year only” warranty policy so they can charge to come fix what should have been done right the first time. It’s a great business model… annuitize your business so it needs constant service. Problem is, that shouldn’t apply to things that are supposed to be durable like custom showers.

In September 2016, I spent a ton of money to have these guys put in a new frameless floor-to-ceiling glass wall and shower door for my bathroom remodel. The glass wall of the shower consists of two pieces of glass: 1) the “door” portion that swings and is attached to the wall with hinges and 2) the “fixed” portion that is permanently anchored to the wall and that the door connects with when in the “closed” position.

The “fixed” glass pane has four sides: one that connects with the “door” panel and is freestanding when the door is open, one that touches the ceiling, one that touches the wall, and one that touches the floor. When this panel was installed by these guys, it was only anchored with screws and clamps to the ceiling. The sides of the pane touching the wall and the floor were simply glued using silicone caulking.

It looked great and functioned OK for about a year (coincidentally their warranty period). However, after the door being closed enough times and the bottom of the fixed pane only being attached to the marble floor with silicone caulking, of course the flexible caulking failed, leaving the “fixed” panel now hanging in the air anchored to the ceiling. It’s obvious that the fixed pane should have been installed with anchors to both the ceiling and the floor. That way, the glass that serves as the stop to the door when it closes is firmly attached. By only anchoring it to the ceiling and leaving the floor pieces attached with only clear silicone, Lake Norman and Glass virtually guaranteed the bottom portion would fail after the door closes enough times. I should have seen that this was going to happen, but I trusted that they knew what they were doing… after all, it’s not my job to notice stuff like that, that’s why you hire “professionals.”

I called Lake Norman Glass and explained the issue. The woman I spoke to said that the one-year warranty had lapsed and that they would charge me a service fee JUST TO COME LOOK AT IT. I explained that this wasn’t some part that failed after use or something, that this was an error in installation that had existed since the moment it was installed and that I wanted to be corrected. She said she would consult with the manager and call me back in a few minutes. That call never came. I called back and left a message that was not returned.

I had my contractor, who hired them, call and see if he could make any traction. He left two messages and they never called back.

Now, I have a glass wall to my shower that I spent thousands of dollars on that leaks water everywhere and that the door can’t effectively close on. Lake Norman Glass has told me that they’ll charge me a service call, just as if they were coming to a house that they had never worked at, just to take a look at what’s needed to fix the problem that they created in the first place. They won’t even return phone calls at this point. We’ll see if this review gets them to contact me or my contractor… bet it doesn’t.

Do yourself a favor, avoid what’s happened to me and hire someone else to do your job.
